George Washington Fletcher was born on March 4, 1844
to James & Elizabeth "Hoggard" Fletcher. Documents
found have conflicting information as to whether George was born
in Old Doaksville, Missouri or Old Doaksville, Indian Territory.
The Fletcher family immigrated to Texas and originally settled in
Navarro County. They were on the 1850 Census for Navarro County:
Fletcher, James - 40, Elisabeth - 31, John R. - 14, Mary J. - 12,
Wm. - 10, Jasper - 8, Geo. W. - 6, Sarah A. - 4, James B. 10 mos.
G. W.'s parents have never been found on the 1860 Census.
The story that has been passed down by the family is that George's
parents were killed by "wild indians" and that the youngest
child, James B., was kidnapped by them. Whatever happened, the
other children were found on the 1860 Census scattered about living
with different family members. George was on the 1860 Census in
Parker County, Texas. He was living with Fletcher relatives and
was 16 years old.
The very next year at the age of 17, George was recruited
into the Civil War. He had been recruited in Parker County; however,
he enlisted in Houston, Harris County, Texas on October 23, 1861.
He was a private with Co. E, 10th Texas Infantry. Pvt. Fletcher
was discharged at Camp Brazos, near Millican, Brazos County, Texas,
on April 2, 1862 due to a disability.
G. W. did not continue to live in Parker County after the
war. He moved on the Montague County, Texas where he married Susan
B. Guerin. The Guerin family were also from Parker County and
were also on the 1860 Census. At some point between 1860 and 1864,
the Guerin family moved to Montague County. This may have been
due to the increased Indian raids in Parker County during the
Civil War since most of the men under forty-five had left to fight.
It is not known whether Susan had already met G. W. before the
war in Parker County or if they met later after the war in Montague
County. At any rate, they were married there on January 27, 1865
and Susan's new step-father, the Rev. John Tyler, performed the
ceremony.
G. W. & Susan stayed in Montague County for the next
20 years where all of their nine children were born before moving
into Indian Territory where they lived out the remainder of their
lives. George Washington Fletcher & Susan are both buried
in the Katie Cemetery in Katie, Garvin County, Oklahoma.

Biography: Mary Emmeline Fowler Fletcher was my maternal great
granmother. She was born in Hopkins County, KY and moved to Texas in 1881,
settling in Parker County. She died July 12, 1933, and was buried in the
Hill-Fletcher lot in Whitt Cemetery, Parker County.

Biography: Amanda Jane Freeman was the daughter of "A.J." or
William Freeman and Jane Candace Ferguson who married 25 February
1855 in Harrison County, Texas. Amanda had two full brothers,
James H. and William R., and all were orphaned when her father
was killed or disappeared in the years during or immediately
the Civil War. Her mother was living alone in Van Zandt County,
TX with the three children in the Census of 1870. In 1871 Jane
Candace Ferguson Freeman married Justice D. 'Jess' Ferguson,
a cousin, giving Amanda and her brothers a stepfather to raise
them. The family moved to Parker County, near Springtown in
the early 1870's. Amanda, when she was 17, married William Boone
in Fort Worth. He had been the first teacher in the Bedford
College in Tarrant County. They moved to Weatherford where they
remained except for a short period in Waco, until their deaths
one year and one day apart in June 7, 1937 and June 8, 1938.
Amanda and William raised six children in Weatherford and before
their deaths, were great grandparents to seven children.

Biography: W. C. Gilley belonged to the I.O.O.F.
(Odd Fellow) organization. This origination took care of his
and his family's needs. He also belonged to the Woodmen Of the
World and has a Woodmen of The World headstone. He married
on October 6, 1891 in Weatherford, Parker County, Texas to Clora
Ann Cearley b. October 1, 1865 in Lafayette County Mississippi
daughter of Dred/ Dread CEARLEY and Mary Carolina Helm/Hellums. 1900
Chickasaw Indian Nation Census has W. C. as Bill Gilley b. 1875
age 25 and Clora b. Oct. 1865 age 31 and renting a 220 acre
farm. Bill could read, write and speak English. The 1900 census
shows they had four children, Bulah (this is the spelling of
the census taker) b. Oct. 1892, Callie b. Oct 1895, James b.
Sept. 1897 and Omer b. Sept 1897. Census also shows Bill Ratliff
b. Aug. 1880 age 19 as a brother and single living with them
six months as a day labor. 1910 Carter County, OK Census shows
them having 7 children and all 7 children living. William C.
Gilley was Born in Texas. His father born in United States and
his mother was born in Missouri. The census shows William C.
had an education and spoke English and Clora had no education;
however she spoke English. He rented a farm in Graham, Carter
County, Oklahoma.
Gilley is buried in Section 1 Block 12 Lot 15
Space 4 of the Mt. Olivett Cemetery in Pauls Valley, OK. His
insurance was paid from Woodmen of the World/Omaha Woodman Life
Insurance Society on November 18, 1914.
Obituary from Pauls Valley Democrat, Garvin county,
OK. GILLEY, W. (William) C. aged 42, years died early
yesterday morning of complication of diseases, after an illness
of little over three weeks, and the remains were interred in
the city cemetery under the auspices of the Odd fellows lodge
of this city, of which the deceased was a member. The deceased
leaves a wife and seven children. Mr. Gilley was a fine man,
honest and upright, but he was in needy circumstances when taken
ill, but the Odd Fellows administered to his ever need and did
everything that could be done for he and his family

Biography: Andrew J. Gore came to Parker Co. some
time right after the 1850 census was taken. He and two brothers,
John Thomas Gore and Isaac Gore, accompanied their mother, Lydia
Thomas Gore from TN and settled at the northern part of the county,
near the Wise County line. Andrew and Iona had 5 children: Mary,
Virginia Ellen, John D., Anna L., and William Robert Gore. Andrew
married second to Madora Jane Drew and they lived in Paradise, Wise

Biography: George Washington Gore
served Parker County as a sheriff in the early part of the 1900's.
The son of John Thomas Gore and Mary Justine Carter. He and
Abbie had 8 children: Jesse Lela, Lillie B., James H. C. 'Jack',
Jacob Andrew, Joe Bailey, Alvin, Georgia Ruth, and Thomas Gilbert
Gore.

Biography: John Thomas was only nine
or ten when he moved to Parker County with his mother Lydia
and brothers, Andrew and Isaac. He fought in the Confederacy
with Andrew, serving in Co. E of the 10th Texas Infantry Regiment
from 1861 to 1865. He and Mary had a total of 9 children, only
4 living to maturity, all born at Boonsville. Ch: Andrew Jackson,
George Washington, Sarah Lydia, Robert Lee Gore.

Biography: Charles Barefoot GRAVES
was born 29 Sep.1823 in Virginia. He married Lucinda E. DENT,
born 18 December 1830, daughter of William Joseph DENT and Mildred
Emily (Millie)POTTER 5 Mar 1849 in McCracken Co., Kentucky.
They had 6 children: Eliza Apaline GRAVES, William S. GRAVES
(died young), Catherine Jane GRAVES, Mary Elizabeth(Betty) GRAVES,
John Jackson GRAVES, and Charles Asberry GRAVES. All the children
were born in Kentucky and traveled to Parker and Wise Counties,
TX with their parents and other relatives about 1871-72 settling
about 4 miles northeast of Springtown on the C. B. Graves Survey
which was mostly in Wise County but crossed into Parker Co.
a short distance. They belonged to the Baptist Church at Pleasant
Grove (now Opal) in the "Tarrapin Neck" community.
About 1890 they moved to Springtown on a three-acre tract on
the east side of town.
Charles' obituary reads "....a strickly honest, honorable man. .....He
was buried at Terrapin Neck Thursday afternoon in the presence of a large
concourse of people." Weatherford Democrat Tues., October 16, 1906.
He died at age 84 years.
"Mrs. Graves came of a family of old colonial stock and had the distinction
of having had relatives in all four of the great wars fought by the American
republic the war of the revolution, the Civil War, the war with Mexico and the
World War." Daily Herald, Weatherford TX Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1926
Lucinda was a very generous person having raised a nephew, John Thomas HOBBS,
from age 8 years and helping raise two grandsons Oscar and Grady GRAVES after
the death of their mother, Mattie PIERCE. Lucinda died at the age of 95 years.

Biography: Andrew McClure Green was
the eldest son of Zedekiah and Susanna (McClure) Green. In 1872
Andrew moved his family from Fayette to Parker County. Andrew
was a member of the Phoenix Masonic Lodge in Weatherford and
also the Veal Station Masonic Lodge. In August of 1877 he and
his wife signed a petition to form a Cumberland Presbyterian
Church, the new church was known as the Union Congregation and
Andrew was elected as an elder. Children born to this couple
were: Andrew F. Green, Martha Eleanor (Wright), Susanna Elizabeth
(Rhea), Francis Tennessee (Gordon), William Ewing Green, Zedekiah
Washington Green, Mary Jane (Stone), and Emma Green.
