Springtown Boy Scouts Organized There in 1919

In 1919, Rev. Fred Patterson, pastor of the Methodist church of
Sprintown organized the first Boy Scouts of that town.
The customary rules and ways of the Boy Scout organization were
learned and achievements made.
The most outstanding project was for the boys to sell pecan trees
and set them out for the purchase price of $1.00.
Charter members were
Dennis Wren
Voy Britt,
Jack Beard,
Vernon Nash,
John Young,
Jim Harper,
Mode Earp,
Carl Earp,
Afton Malone,
Hadden Malone and
Elivs Keener.
In 1943, Rev. D.E. McVey, pastor of the Methodist church, and Eli
M. Hart, as sponsors, reorganized the boy scouts in Springtown.
The boys camped on the Hart farm, at the swinging bridge and Worth
Ranch.
The boys in that troup were
William Smith (killed in the service in Japan in 1947),
L. E. Barrick,
C.W. Neal,
Russell Neal,
Billy Gene Haygood,
Harvey Sanders,
Billy Joe Thomas,
James Nash,
James Boynton,
Billie Wayne Riddle,
Billy Gene Freeman and
Robert Boynton.
This year[1956], Pete Burkhalter is the scoutmaster, with Clifford
Clay and H.S. Coach as his assistants.
The scouts conducted the March of Dimes drive.
