One of Oldest
Social Club in City

The Congenial 42 Club - is one of the oldest social
club inWeatherford. The group is pictured at a party given

One of the oldest social clubs in Weatherford is the
Congenial Forty-two club, organized in the fall of 1926, or about
thirty years ago.
Its organizer, Mrs. J.W. Hamilton, lived at that time
with her husband and daughters on Spring street. Other charter
members were: Mesdames Nolan Queen, I.H. Christian, S.B. Smith,
W. A. White, Lee Walker, G. A. Holland, Frank Milburn, I. M. Gardner,
Jess Shaw, Gus Wicklund, and Charles Sumpter.
Meetings were held twice monthly on Thursday afternoons.
Two or three times a year "husbands night" would be observed with
a dinner, games and the like.
It is now a luncheon club meeting once each month. Its
present memebers are: Mrs. A. E. Zellers, who is its president,
Mesdames J. B. Alvis, Andy Bowden, J. H. Doss, M. L. Farmer, J.
Hamilton, Geo. Jones, Fred Potter, Jess Shaw, Stella Swofford, Lawerence
Waldrom and Lee Walker.
The following charter members are now deceased: Mrs.
Frank Milburn, Mrs. G.A. Holland, Mrs. S. B. Smith, and Mrs. W.
A. White.
